About

Nothing beats a home cooked meal.

Homemade was created for those who still crave a home cooked meal.  Nothing beats a yummy heart filled home cooked meal prepared by the one person who knows and loves you unconditionally.... Surely there's something your Mom makes or used to make... that you still crave for every once in a while.  Let us know, and we'll be happy to consider it for our menu.

 

I opened my kitchen to share those comfort foods with you, in your home.  

 

This is not a meal prep or weight loss meal program.  Nor is it to promote healthy eating. 


Health Education Department Chairperson Lesley Rennis said,  

“Strong emotional states make us turn to comfort food to feel safe and in control,” said “Comfort foods not only taste good, they actually lessen the impact of stress hormones.”

Eating sweet and starchy food helps our bodies make serotonin which makes us feel calmer, and decrease the stress hormone cortisol, explains Rennis. A number of studies show that people feel less depressed, anxious and irritable after consuming carbohydrate-rich foods.  She says fatty foods like bacon and cheese, actually have a numbing effect, that helps decrease the emotional response to stress.

When it comes to the senses, associations can trigger our happy place. These associations can be wrapped up in smell, texture, and taste. Comfort food is associated with relationships. Memories of eating a certain dish in your childhood that was prepared by a loved one eventually becomes comfort food. It points to food's ability "to fulfill belongingness needs," providing an emotional, social benefit.
